YouTube has appointed a new CEO after announcing the exit of former CEO Susan Wojcicki. The former CEO announced that she was leaving the firm on February 16, stating plans to focus on her personal life and family. During her time with YouTube, Wojcicki was at the forefront of many new models, including a system that allows users to share revenue with the firm. In the announcement, the former CEO said that she would remain on the board of Alphabet, a sister company of the firm, as an advisor.

Neal Mohan is the new YouTube CEO

The new CEO Neal Mohan was the firm’s chief product officer. One of the notable changes he made at the firm was the elimination of the dislike button. Asides from that, he introduced a short video method to compete with other short video apps like TikTok. Mohan also hinted at adding basic web3 features to the platform and introducing content related to the metaverse.

Mohan also talked about tokenizing content on the platform, even though the NFT community didn’t like the update at the time. One spectacular belief he had was that content creator could interact with their users through NFTs and increase their revenue on the platform. He mentioned that the firm could look at measures to help creators tokenize their contents which could make the update very interesting.

Mohan wants creators to embrace Web3

Neal Mohan believes that the Web3 ecosystem will be huge in the future, and its creators can take advantage of it. He wants them to use crypto and blockchain to create a shared connection between them and their fans. Although the Web3 function was supposed to have been floated in 2022, YouTube has yet to release it.

The news of the appointment of a new CEO has met a small number of doubts or fear among the NFT skeptics on the microblogging platform Twitter. An account was eager to share the news about the new CEO leaning towards the crypto sector. The skeptics are usually quick to attach something terrible to an appointment that has ties with NFTs or crypto in general. Although the hype has died down, NFTs are still the cake of the crypto sector.
