Crypto execs, White House officials reportedly set for virtual meeting organised by Ro Khanna
White House officials and crypto executives will hold a virtual meeting Monday that may also include representatives of presumptive Democratic presidential nominee and current Vice President Kamala Harris, two sources briefed on the plans told Politico.
The event will occur as crypto-friendly Democrats and the industry work to persuade the party to take a more forward-looking approach to digital assets and blockchain technology.
California Representative Ro Khanna, a pro-crypto Democrat who last month held an initial digital-asset roundtable, is organising the discussion.
National Economic Council Director Lael Brainard is expected to attend, as well as White House Deputy Chief of Staff Bruce Reed.
Anita Dunn, an outgoing senior adviser to President Joe Biden who is leaving to advise the biggest super PAC backing Harris, will also participate, Politico reported.
The Harris team has been invited as well.
Fox Business reported that the guest list includes Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse and co-founder Chris Larsen, who have been critics of a regulatory crackdown by Chair Gary Gensler’s US Securities and Exchange Commission.
The SEC sued Ripple during the administration of former President Donald Trump, and the legal battle has continued through the Biden administration, DL News has reported.
Last month, 14 Democratic House members wrote a letter suggesting that pro-crypto language be included in the party’s platform, and that a pro-innovation SEC chair be chosen to replace Gensler, architect of the agency’s current regulation-through-enforcement strategy.
Separately, Politico reported that the Harris campaign has hired David Plouffe, who was an adviser to former President Barack Obama.
Plouffe was also a member of the Global Advisory Board of crypto exchange Binance.
