Meta Platforms has released the AI Studio, which enables users to create chatbots and AI versions of themselves to respond to messages. With this tool, users have control over the AI designs for the chatbots.

The company revealed this tool enables users to generate specific chatbots through the tool’s website or directly on Instagram.

Meta rolls out tool to US users

The social media giant rolled out the AI Studio, built on Llama 3.1, to users in the US. Llama 3.1 is, to date, Meta’s largest AI model. Meta says AI studio is a way to support Instagram creators by automating replies to fans, allowing them to reach more people.

“Instagram creators can set up an AI as an extension of themselves that can quickly answer common DM [direct message] questions and story replies,” Meta said in a blog post. “Whether it’s sharing facts about themselves or linking to their favorite brands and past videos, creator AIs can help creators reach more people and fans get responses faster.”

With AI Studio, users can create AI chatbots customized to their needs, such as their “Instagram content, topics to avoid, and links they want to share.” Meta said the chatbot can be made for only the creator to access or made available to friends and family.

Meta shared some examples that include an AI chatbot made specifically to provide food tips when traveling, a “stress ball” chatbot to support users at work, and another tailor-made to assist users with their photography skills.

Unleashing everyone’s creative abilities

Meta added that the company is making efforts to enable users to unleash their creativity by leveraging AI capabilities.

Mark Zuckerberg, Meta CEO also spoke about AI Studio during the ACM SIGGRAPH conference in Denver on Monday saying his company wants to empower users by enabling them to create their agents capable of handling content, sales, and providing customer support.

Zuckerberg said that while creators and their fans may face time constraints, the AI chatbots address that challenge as they are trained on a creator’s persona.

“It’s a very creative endeavor almost like a piece of art or content that you’re putting out there.”

This latest product offering comes after OpenAI made a similar move early this year by allowing users to build their versions of ChatGPT. The startup launched its GPT Store in January to serve as a marketplace for users to share their custom chatbots.

Meta has also released a new version of its Segment Anything Model (SAM),  which detects objects in an image even if it has never seen it before. According to Meta, the SAM 2 performs better than the previous one.
