Hamster Kombat airdrop faces delays due to TON network concerns

Hamster Kombat, the popular Telegram-based game, might not be having its HMSTR token airdrop anytime soon. The project’s developers blame the delays on the complexity of organizing what could potentially be the biggest airdrop event in the crypto space.

The update follows recent clamor by players as the Token Generation Event (TGE) initially scheduled for July now looks impossible. A look at the Hamster Kombat website shows that it has been updated to show that the TGE is upcoming, while a “tech solution for the largest airdrop” is now scheduled for July 2024.

TON blockchain might not be able to handle airdrop

In a July 29 post, the Hamster Kombat team explained on X that the delays in the airdrop are due to the complexities surrounding the launch. According to the developers, the size of the airdrop means network overload is possible on The Open Network (TON) blockhain.

About 300 million users have registered and played Hamster Kombat since the project launched on Telegram a few months ago. This makes it one of the most played blockchain games ever and has increased anticipation about its airdrop.

The team acknowledged that ensuring a smooth token launch for such a large number of people is difficult. However, it added that it is working with the TON team to find the best solution for the airdrop.

“Hamster Kombat is one of the biggest projects in the industry and can become the biggest airdrop in history. (…) we want the airdrop to be carried out as smoothly as possible for every single one of you, and so that everyone can receive their tokens.”

Meanwhile, the team also provided additional updates on the airdrop. It disclosed that participation in various activities will be a major factor in determining the amount of tokens one gets in the airdrop. However, regardless of whether they participate in those activities, every player will get a share of the airdrop. “The only mandatory part to receive your tokens is to connect your TON wallet to your profile,” they added.

Despite the update, many users appear to be running out of patience for the airdrop. Most of the comments under the post were people asking when the TGE will happen. TGE refers to when the token is generated for the first time on the blockchain and becomes available to users.

Pre-trading market expands for Hamster Kombat

With no definite date for the airdrop, the pre-trading market for HMSTR tokens has been growing. OKX exchange has become the latest exchange to announce that it will list the token in Pre-Market futures trading, a new feature on the crypto exchange.

Several other exchanges have announced similar plans over the past few weeks, showing high demand for the token. These include ByBit, KuCoin, Gate.io, and BitGet.

Pre-market listings allow traders to gain exposure to the trending tokens before the official airdrop. However, they are very risky and highly speculative. This is even more so for HMSTR, where there is no information yet on the tokenomics or the conversion rate for in-game coins to on-chain tokens.

Although the tokenomics has not yet been released, Hamster Kombat’s new whitepaper shows that 60% of the tokens will go to the players. The rest would be spent on partnerships, grants, providing market liquidity, and other purposes. The team added that there are no plans to sell team token allocation as it is already a profitable business.
