Apex Legends’ Steam reviews drop to “Overwhelmingly Negative” after EA confirmed season 22 changes
Apex Legends is currently being review-bombed by disgruntled players. Despite the creative player protests, the developers continue plans to release more updates to improve the game.

Apex Legends, a free-to-play action shooter game, has continued getting negative reviews on Steam. The game had previously enjoyed immense popularity as a top performer in its genre. However, following the decisions made by EA and Respawn Entertainment for the upcoming season 22, angry fans took to Steam to show their displeasure.

EA Sports and Respawn Entertainment confirmed several changes to the Apex Legends game prior to the release of season 22. The game’s transition has, however, been marred by controversy after its creators announced various changes that will take effect in the new season. EA and Respawn announced that the legacy system would be scrapped starting from the new season.
The legacy system allowed players to grind for Apex Coins and use them to buy Battle Passes in the game. The plans announced meant that the players’ Apex Coins would be worthless as they could no longer be used to buy the Battle Pass.

Respawn Entertainment announced that the new split Battle Pass packages would only be available to players after they paid real-life currency. The new Battle Pass packages retailed at $9.99 for the Premium package and $19.99 for the Premium+. Respawn’s announcement was met with immediate backlash from players who were looking forward to the new season.
The game developers explained the change as a way to improve Apex Legends and the user’s experience. Respawn stated that the introduction of the new Battle Pass packages would improve the general quality and value of the Battle Pass packages. They noted that the price alterations had lowered the general costs and level requirements to allow users to get more out of the Battle Pass packages. However, players continued protesting and directed the developers to fix persistent bugs instead.
Players heap criticism on Apex Legends’ profiles
Following the announced changes for Apex Legends’ season 22, reviewers called out the company creatively. Some players adjusted the community note on Apex’s X announcement to criticize the choice to lock the Battle Passes behind a paywall. Players also congregated on other social media platforms to criticize the changes to the Battle Pass. Other players continued to bomb the game’s reviews on Steam as a way to call out the price changes made on the Battle Pass packages.

Currently, the most recent 40,639 reviews for Apex Legends on Steam are “Overwhelmingly Negative.” In the reviews, players called for solidarity and continued review bombing to force EA to reverse the decision. Despite the heavy criticism, Respawn Entertainment and EA Sports still plan to roll out more updates for the game.
