Craig Wright, the self-proclaimed Bitcoin creator has formally admitted that he is not Satoshi Nakamoto, the inventor of the leading cryptocurrency.

The announcement comes months after a High Court ruling in the United Kingdom, which found the Australian computer scientist to have been dishonest in his claims to be the anonymous figure behind Bitcoin.

Craig Wright Not Satoshi Nakamoto

Wright has been forced to update the homepage of his website, Slack, and X account for at least six months with a legal notice declaring that he is not the inventor of Bitcoin.

The court verdict accused him of lying extensively and repeatedly forging documents “on a grand scale” and creating a “false narrative” in support of his claims of being Satoshi Nakamoto, the enigmatic creator of the world’s most famous cryptocurrency.

The High Court’s order as shared partially by Wright in the post states that he is not the author of the Bitcoin whitepaper, does not own its copyright and was not the person operating under the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto between 2008 and 2011.

Additionally, the court said that Wright did not create the Bitcoin system or author the initial versions of the BTC software.

To prevent further legal actions based on his false claims, the court has prohibited Wright from initiating any proceedings related to his claims, either directly or through proxies. He is also banned from even issuing threats of such actions.

Wright’s Legal Battles

Wright’s legal confrontations began when he claimed that he was the individual behind the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto and insisted that he was the author of the white paper.

His efforts to assert ownership were met with widespread skepticism and legal challenges. He went on a legal crusade to block people within and outside the cryptocurrency community from hosting the Bitcoin whitepaper, claiming copyright infringement. However, he was unable to cryptographically confirm that he was Satoshi Nakamoto, the real inventor of Bitcoin.

His actions prompted the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA), a non-profit organization that aims to keep cryptocurrency technology free from patents, to file a high-profile case against him. In March of this year, Judge Mellor ruled that Craig Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto.
