Donald Trump Teases 4th NFT Collection Amid Fears of Chinese Crypto Domination
YEREVAN (CoinChapter.com) — Former President Donald Trump revealed that he is contemplating launching a fourth non-fungible token (NFT) collection. In a recent interview on July 16, Trump said,
“I’m going to do another one because the people want me to do another one.”
He proudly noted the success of his previous NFT collection, “MugShot,” which sold out in just one day.
“We had one year to sell it out, and it sold out in one day,”
Donald Trump stated. The “MugShot” collection was themed around his ongoing criminal indictments, adding a unique twist to the digital assets.
Trump Warns Against Losing U.S. Leadership in Crypto to China
Trump emphasized the importance of the United States maintaining a leadership role in the cryptocurrency industry. He stressed that the country should not allow another nation to take over this sphere.
“It’s a baby. It’s an infant right now. But I don’t want to be responsible for allowing another country to take over this sphere,”
Trump said. He pointed out that China is “pretty advanced in that sphere,” highlighting the potential threat of losing the lead in the crypto market.
Donald Trump Highlights Jamie Dimon’s Shift on Cryptocurrency
Trump also acknowledged the shift in attitudes towards cryptocurrency among traditional banking executives. He mentioned Jamie Dimon, CEO of JP Morgan, who was initially very negative about cryptocurrency but has since softened his stance.
“Jamie Dimon was, you know, very negative and now all of a sudden he’s changed his tune a little bit,”
Trump said. Dimon had faced criticism from the crypto industry for his harsh words against cryptocurrency at a Senate Banking Committee hearing in December 2023.
“If I was the government, I’d close it down,”
Dimon had said at the time.
MAGA Memecoin Surges After Assassination Attempt on Trump
The interview came just days after an assassination attempt on Trump while he was speaking at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. On July 14, a rapid surge in the Ethereum-based MAGA memecoin following the attempt on Trump’s life.
Recently, the memecoin’s price spiked from $6.31 to $10.36, with its total market capitalization jumping from $293 million to $469 million in less than 45 minutes. Above all, this incident underscores the volatile and dynamic nature of the cryptocurrency market, particularly when linked to high-profile figures like Trump.
