Roger Ver, a Bitcoin cash (BCH) advocate, was charged with tax fraud on Tuesday, per a US DOJ press release. Ver sold bitcoins in November 2017, taking in $240 million in cash, and did not pay the capital gains on it. Despite not being a U.S. citizen, he was legally required to report to the IRS and pay tax on certain distributions. Ver had concealed from his accountant that he had received and sold MemoryDealers’ and Agilestar’s bitcoins, which resulted in his tax return not reporting any gain or paying any related tax. Ver’s extradition back to the U.S. will be sought.
