Sam Bankman-Fried was quiet and articulate, but he mostly restated his claim that FTX had the assets necessary to compensate investors at the time of the company’s failure. He talked about the suffering he had caused his former clients and coworkers, Caroline Ellison and Gary Wang among them, who had testified against him in court. “To Judge Lewis Kaplan, I know a lot of people feel really let down,” he remarks. “They all put a lot of effort into building something really lovely, and then I threw everything away.” He continues, “It haunts me every day.”
