Rabbids NFTs in The Sandbox part of Ubisoft’s Web3 push

With the December 2021 release of Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, Ubisoft became the first significant video game publisher to provide in-game NFT products. It has now made available Rabbid NFT avatars for the Sandbox Ethereum metaverse game. The NFT was made public. Ubisoft began the sale today for those whose identities had been added to an allowed list. The general sale will begin Wednesday.

Ubisoft said it distributed 2,066 Rabbids avatars via Polygon, which uses Ethereum scaling. In honor of the Lunar New Year, the Rabbids will come in various styles, which they will reveal to customers this Friday.

The Sandbox will release a Rabbids gaming environment for an open alpha test. Rabbid avatars are available for players to use in the game. Previously, The Sandbox offered NFT goods and accessories with Rabbid themes and characters in its NFT Institute experience. The first significant video game company to notice Web3 was Ubisoft, which created a prototype of an NFT game.

Additionally, Ubisoft has invested in firms like Animoca Brands and Horizon Game Studios, a maker of NFT games. With Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, Ubisoft introduced Tezos-based NFTs that let players amass and trade exclusive weapons and equipment.

Due to cryptocurrency scams, expensive asset values, and what some perceive as another way for game publishers to make money, players were divided over Ubisoft’s adoption of NFTs in Ghost Recon. When post-launch support for the game was discontinued in April 2022, Ubisoft declared they would still use the Quartz platform for their upcoming releases.
